چکیده

lar interactions and their local environment. Cell traction force microscopy (CTFM) was utilised to determine the exerted traction forces of individual cells on a coated elastic substrate. From knowledge of the elasticity of the gel (Young’s modulus) the displacement of the gel surface was used to calculate traction fields using finite element analysis (FEA). This initial data are being refined by integrating the positions of focal adhesions and organization of the filamentous actin cytoskeleton. This data are being used to interpret in vivo behaviours of these cells by knowledge of their in vitro characteristics.

Knockdown of embryonic myosin heavy chain reveals an essential role in the morphology and function of the developing heart

The expression and function of embryonic myosin heavy chain (eMYH) has not been investigated within the early developing heart. This is despite the knowledge that other structural proteins, such as alpha and beta myosin heavy chains and cardiac alpha actin, play crucial roles in atrial septal development and cardiac function. Most cases of atrial septal defects and cardiomyopathy are not associ...

Background & Aims: Despite confirmed effectiveness of forced exercise training in reducing doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, the role of voluntary physical activity in reducing doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, especially in the elderly, still has not been investigated properly. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of cardiac protection caused by voluntary phy...

Cardiac troponin T is necessary for normal development in the embryonic chick heart

The heart is the first functioning organ to develop during embryogenesis. The formation of the heart is a tightly regulated and complex process, and alterations to its development can result in congenital heart defects. Mutations in sarcomeric proteins, such as alpha myosin heavy chain and cardiac alpha actin, have now been associated with congenital heart defects in humans, often with atrial s...

Mouse embryonic stem cells express the cardiac myosin heavy chain genes during development in vitro.

In the mouse embryo, early organogenesis is characterized by the formation of a functional cardiac muscle, such that 9-day embryos exhibit beating, although not fully developed hearts. In light of this observation, we found it intriguing that mouse embryoid bodies (EB), which can develop in vitro from totipotential embryonic stem cells, undergo spontaneous contractile activity. To determine if ...

Transitions in cardiac isomyosin expression during differentiation of the embryonic chick heart.

The expression of different isoforms of the contractile protein myosin plays a major role in determining contractile characteristics in both cardiac and skeletal muscle in the adult. There is little evidence pertaining to putative changes in myosin phenotype during cardiac embryogenesis or if such changes could play a role in modulating the contractile characteristics of the developing heart. W...
